NANCY UPDIKE
Peabody Award-winnaar Nancy Updike (VS) is een echte podcastpionier. Journalist en audioregisseur Yasmina Hamlawi (BE) maakt audioproducties over plekken die je zelden ziet, met mensen die je zelden hoort. In 2022 won ze de prestigieuze Prix Europa voor haar audiodocumentaire Pearl, over een Somalische vrouw die na jarenlang onderdrukt te zijn geweest de regie over haar eigen leven, lichaam en seksualiteit herovert. In de persoonlijke documentaire Pleuvoir sur les morts, zoekt ze in haar vaderland Algerije samen met haar dochter naar een nieuw ritueel rondom de dood. Bijzonder is hoe Hamlawi in geluid en ruimte personages laat worden en het luisteren een theatrale ervaring laat zijn. Hoe ze dat doet, vertelt ze in haar masterclass op de Makersdag.

UnReality heet de de podcast van prijswinnend audioregisseur Talia Augustidus (VK), waarin ze haar grappige, ontroerende en vooral heel creatieve audiodocumentaires laat horen. Of het nou een stuk is van 3 minuten of 15: Augustidus is een ster in het creëren van een dromerig en aanstekelijk speels geluidsuniversum. Een talent dat niet onopgemerkt is gebleven: haar verhalen werden ook opgenomen in Lights Out (BBC) en This American Life. Als curator van het Londense In the Dark, een maandelijks luisterevent met gedurfde en experimentele audioverhalen van over de hele wereld, onderzoekt ze voortdurend wat audioverhalen kunnen zijn. In haar masterclass op de Makersdag daagt ze je uit om, aan de hand van korte audioverhalen, je speelse kant verder te ontwikkelen.

In her masterclass on the Industry day, she will challenge you to tap into your playful side through short-form audio stories.
